Street appeal alert! Once again, the Three Birds Renovations team have overhauled a Sydney property, taking it from shabby to showstopping. Nestled in the heart of Sydney on a leafy street, the dated 1920s California Bungalow needed fresh life to suit a 2020s lifestyle. Naturally, the Three Birds team delivered a swoon-worthy transformation!
Transforming the front facade: a nod to the classic California bungalow
This time, the Three Birds team set out to elevate the charm of a classic California Bungalow into a ‘Cali Cool‘ masterpiece. The key project goal? Create space to accommodate the homeowners and their young, growing family (with a baby girl making her appearance partway through the reno process!)
“We’re keeping the charm of the cottage but transforming it into the modern day!” Erin.
The front façade was a key focus to balance the serious glow-up the property needed to ensure the ‘Cali Cool’ charm was carried across the entire property.
The Three Birds team aimed to preserve the original character of the bungalow while refreshing its façade with a modern touch, adding a stunning front fence and carport for functionality.

A wall that does more – why Three Birds Renovations love ModularWalls
The Three Birds team are no strangers to the ModularWalls solution, as our multifunctional solutions are ideal for a range of applications.
Ideal for boundary walls, pool fences, retaining walls, privacy screens, front walls, and feature walls, The Birds have worked with a variety of ModularWalls products across House 10, House 11, House 13 and House 14.
Whether it’s for appeal, privacy, security, or noise reduction, it’s easy to see why the Three Birds team choose ModularWalls.
“The great thing about ModularWalls is that they’re easy to install, they’re really solid and secure, they prevent noise transfer. And, you can clad them to make them even more pretty.” Lana

Enhancing privacy and security with ModularWalls
As the homeowners craved more security, installing ModularWalls in the front was a no-brainer.
“This home didn’t used to have [much of] a front fence, but the homeowners really wanted some more security and privacy, so we installed ModularWalls for them.” Lana
With the ability to achieve heights of up to 3 metres*, ModularWalls help create a solid, non-climbable perimeter for thousands of Australian homes.
“It really is so solid and so beautiful, it feels like a retreat for the homeowners. The beauty of ModularWalls is their ease of installation and solid security. They provide instant privacy while preventing noise transfer. Honestly, it just feels so safe, secure and relaxing in here.” Lana

A seamless facade transformation for striking street appeal
“Have you ever thought about how your walls and fences impact the look of your outdoor spaces? They’re not just a backdrop, they can really set the tone for your property.” Bonnie
ModularWalls solutions convey a streamlined, sophisticated charm. This helps to achieve the elevated aesthetics for which the Three Birds Renovations team is renowned.
“We used ModularWalls TrendWall® at the front for that seamless look. It’s like a little sneak peek of the exterior of the property.” Bonnie

Adding character with customisation
It wouldn’t be a Three Birds Renovations project without an added touch of whimsy. The existing brick detail inspired for the Birds: they fell in love with the raw, organic sense of texture. In turn, this sparked inspiration for the front façade.
With a knack for knowing how and when to customise, the Birds added Veneer Stone cladding to the house façade for that distinctive design flair. This same Veneer Stone cladding was installed to the face of the front wall to smoothly blend original charm with modern appeal.
“It’s customisable, so you can mix and match cladding and paint to pair perfectly with your home’s aesthetic” Bonnie
Whether it’s tiling, cladding, painting or rendering, there are so many versatile options to finish ModularWalls. Select the finishing and customisation option that suits your space, and create a front wall that complements the architecture of your home.
“The beauty with the ModularWalls system is it goes in so quickly, so easily, but then you can clad it in stone…and then you can add a gate!” Bonnie

Garden details and pops of greenery
Another exciting feature offered by ModularWalls is the option to integrate retaining. Here, the Birds have cleverly used our TerraFirm® retaining panels, integrated seamlessly with the TrendWall® fence.
“It’s all very symmetrical. We’ve got the garden beds at the front, which is really nice just to break it up.” Bonnie
By alternating the stone cladding detail with garden bed feature cutouts, the front wall becomes something far more than just a boundary line: it’s a striking focal point for the façade.

A private, functional carport with ModularWalls
With privacy and security being a driving goal for the boundary applications on this project, the team chose SlimWall® for the carport, to reduce noise in a narrow space.
“For the carport, we’ve used the SlimWall® product. Not only does it create a clear boundary and give privacy, but it also helps cut down on noise.” Bonnie
All ModularWalls’ premium fence and wall solutions offer proven noise reduction, tested and rated by the National Acoustic Laboratory of Australia.
