Following a sea change from Sydney’s suburbs to the picturesque South Coast, Ben and his family found a coastal heaven home they loved – only the swimming pool fencing was non-compliant and the patchwork of mismatched boundary fences from multiple neighbours, was less than visually appealing.

Inspired by the idea of completely transforming the space, Ben envisioned not just meeting council fencing compliance but creating a cohesive design that flowed seamlessly across the entire pool area. Living in a coastal region, the family were seeking a modern coastal heaven infused with tropical vibes that would serve as a focal point for family entertaining.

Adding value and visual appeal

A perennial creative, Ben began searching for options that would not only enhance the beauty of his home but also provide essential benefits like privacy and noise reduction. Enter TrendWall®.

“We chose TrendWall for its minimal footprint and aesthetic design. It was like a blank canvas for us finish it how we wanted. Choosing the flush tops allowed us to keep the design minimal. Having the added benefits of privacy and noise reduction were amazing bonuses.

As a photographer, Ben naturally gravitated toward a look of how walls would frame the pool area, bathing it in light and allowing vibrant landscaping and lawn space to pop against the backdrop.

“Initially, it was all about getting compliance with the council. However, after researching the options, it started becoming more about creating a feeling in the space itself.I love it when people first see our pool; they compliment us not just on how it looks, but on the feeling they get when they see it.”

Integrated retaining

Before site works began, Ben knew one side of the pool area needed some retaining. The TrendWall effortlessly combined both the wall and retaining elements in one, saving both space and money. It also created a more clean, minimalistic design.

“With the TrendWall you can’t even tell that there’s about 30-40cm being retained on the bottom side of our pool, if we had retained the land then added the wall, it would have cost us space and money.

Height and security

With the previous non-compliant fences being low and easily climbable, the family wanted to ensure maximum safety and security for the family. Ben chose a slightly taller design for enhanced privacy and security. The new walls are high and stylish, ensuring the safety of all – including their neighbours who have young kids of their own.

“One of the great options is the height variations you can choose from. We decided to get a slightly taller height than what we needed just so we could have that added privacy and complete the look and feel we wanted.

Peace of mind (and quiet) for a coastal heaven

Aside from creating a dream coastal heaven, Ben was mindful of having a harmonious space not just for his own family, but his neighbours as well. Having three young girls full of energy, Ben says the family wanted to be considerate of their neighbours while keeping the joy alive in their own backyard pool space. The TrendWall installation has been a game-changer, delivering on both style and noise reduction with its acoustic capabilities.

“Our new ModularWalls pool wall has provided peace of mind. We have three young girls, and when they have a few friends over and they’re all playing, it gets noisy! We wanted to keep our neighbours happy without making too much noise, which ModularWalls has definitely helped with.”

A cost-effective decision

Choosing ModularWalls was not just practical for Ben and his family; it was a step towards creating the coastal heaven they envisaged, at an affordable price. The rendered finish has provided them with a high-end look without the exorbitant costs typically associated with traditional concrete fencing, saving both space and money.

“We chose ModularWalls over other fencing products because of the rendered finish we could achieve, at a price we could afford. We certainly saved on the space and cost if we went with an actual concrete finish!”
