A new McDonald’s restaurant in Orange, NSW, required an acoustic wall that provided maximum noise attenuation from the adjacent main road. Premium aesthetics were a priority, to complement the overall modern architectural design, and a short build schedule was key to the opening of the restaurant.
Key challenges for the site included:
- Tight/restricted access around the drive-through area limited plant use.
- Limited space eliminating the possibility of traditional masonry structures that used wide strip footings.
- Weather and site conditions presented challenges to the tight build schedule.
ModularWalls collaborated with Lanskey Constructions to engineer a solution to this very specific design brief. Utilising AcoustiMax panels within the aesthetically adaptable VogueWall system, ModularWalls were able to provide an acoustic wall that offered strong visual appeal with high sound attenuation capabilities.
With innovative construction customisation, including the use of CFA bored piers and receptor attachment to cantilevered slab and hob, ModularWalls provided a site-specific solution to their needs, including the relevant certification.
Running along the site boundary and ranging from 1.5-2.4m in height, depending on the level of acoustic performance required, they were able to complete the installation in 5 days with a 3-man team, plusthe painting, including an Anti-Graffiti coating.
The client achieved their desired aesthetic of a rendered brick wall even though a traditional masonry structure wasn’t possible, and saved themselves time and money in the process.
