The Block 2021 is proving a tough contest between Fans and Favourites. But, as always, backyard reveals are a massive task, and this year was no exception for Tanya and Vito in House 3. So, let’s take a closer look at the Melbourne couple’s backyard, which also features a ModularWalls’ TrendWall!

House 3: Tanya and Vito
Tanya and Vito are a family-focused couple who have brought plenty of experience to The Block, previously building and renovating three homes! Their style is all about adding colour, personality and mixing old with new. So, it’s no surprise their mid-century modern house on The Block reflects this style and continues out into their backyard. Tanya describes their backyard inspiration as ‘typical 1950’s Melbourne.’ So let’s dive into their backyard reveal.

Backyard entertaining
Tanya and Vito have extended the living area with a striking Merbau timber deck which flows out to a BBQ area complete with an outdoor kitchen! It’s a great spot to cook meals for friends and family using the CROSSRAY in-built BBQ, complete with a sink and drinks fridge. Being adjacent to the internal living and dining area also means a large gathering can still enjoy their meal together while feeling connected to the outdoors. That said, the outdoor space is also perfect for sitting back and relaxing on the outdoor lounge to enjoy a morning coffee or while watching the kids play in the pool.
Tanya and Vito go modular with ModularWalls
Planning a backyard makeover on The Block is no simple task. Yet Tanya and Vito had the forethought to match the pool boundary fence with the modern aesthetic of their home, and ModularWalls was the solution. As ModularWalls is a lightweight post and panel system, it easily met The Block’s extremely tight installation time. Not to mention, the aluminium posts of the TrendWall make an excellent solution for pool walls.
By installing a ModularWalls’ TrendWall in front of the existing timber fence, Tanya and Vito created a stunning backdrop to the pool and BBQ area. Plus, the horizontal slats add to the contemporary style. The result is a modern outlook to complement the home’s mid-century modern design.

A Plungie pool sets the scene perfectly
A backyard on The Block isn’t complete without a pool. Tanya and Vito’s Plungie pool is a fantastic addition for families or a quiet soak after a long day at work. The original Plungie pool and French grey finish work well with the decking and overall colour palette. The inclusion of the flush pool cover will undoubtedly come in handy when the pool isn’t in use.
The addition of the Lounge Chair from SATARA and the white and matt black Vader Concrete Stool make the perfect outdoor seating combination; who wouldn’t want to sit poolside sipping a cold drink and taking in the surroundings. Tanya and Vito have also managed to bring their signature pop of colour to the backyard, with the Gingko Tree and plants framing the pool. Likewise, the dark colour on the Modular Wall helps bring out the vibrant colours of the vegetation.

Overall, the paired-back styling lets the space speak for itself. The result is a fantastic indoor-outdoor living space, perfect for relaxing, entertaining and having fun. We’re sure the owners will be thrilled with all Tanya and Vito accomplished in this outdoor space.
