Engaged by Ertech, ModularWalls supplied a sophisticated, dual-purpose noise barrier with integrated retaining for Main Roads WA.
Due to the widening of Spearwood Avenue in Yangebup, WA, Main Roads WA required a high-performance noise barrier to protect the surrounding residents from the increased noise pollution. In addition, the design needed to offer earth-retaining capabilities, with the road falling on the ‘low side’, heightening the need for an aesthetically sophisticated solution.
For this project, a combination of two high performance panels were utilised to meet the brief.

Acoustic attenuation
Our revolutionary EnduroMax noise barrier panels met the acoustic specifications, as well as the detailed noise barrier design criteria for Main Roads WA.
Combining the sophisticated aesthetics of cementitious outer skins, with the high tensile strength of internal reinforcement layers, the EnduroMax panel has been specifically designed to withstand the extreme conditions associated with road, rail and civil infrastructure environments.
Integrated retaining
Furthermore, to meet the 1.5m retaining requirements, our TerraFirmX retaining panels were integrated into the noise barrier design.
Boasting smooth, cementitious outer skins with internal reinforcement ribs, the panels seamlessly integrated with the EnduroMax panels, providing a visually undetectable integrated solution.

Additionally, the client saved substantial costs, time and hassle with this dual-purpose noise barrier design, as it negated the need for two separate solutions. The final design reached a total height of 3-3.6m from the road’s ground level, running 250m in length.
Finally, the barrier was painted in a gentle, alternating colour scheme that accentuated the surrounding landscape.
