Walka Grange Lifestyle Village turned to ModularWalls for an aesthetically superior rail corridor noise barrier to protect their residents from railway noise while maintaining the development’s premium aesthetic values.
Walka Grange Lifestyle Village is a resort-style, over 55s gated estate in Maitland, NSW. This development’s design sets to free residents from domestic maintenance demands without needing to sacrifice their freedom or autonomy. The village boasts architectural homes amidst tranquil, natural surroundings. However, the proximity to a train line jeopardised the community’s peace.
To address these issues, ModularWalls worked directly with MBK Holdings, the asset owner and builder, to design and supply an acoustic barrier to meet their specific criteria. Additionally, with previous experience installing noise walls as part of the Hunter Expressway extension, ModularWalls was familiar with the local jurisdiction requirements regarding infrastructure noise solutions.
On top of acoustic performance, the sloping land also required retaining capabilities to create level, functional lots for the residents. Therefore, TerraFirmX panels, which easily retain 900-1200mm, were seamlessly integrated into the GuardianWall system, with the rest of the barrier utilising AcoustiMax noise attenuation panels. The result is a single, seamless wall solution.
Due to the various specifications, the service provided to the client involved multiple disciplines, including engineering, project management and custom manufacturing.
Overall, the project involved five stages, taking approximately 18 months to complete. The final rail corridor noise barrier measures 3.6m high on the low side and 2.4m high on the residential side. Lastly, the wall includes custom post tops and other decorative elements to maintain the architectural values of the development.
