Degnan, an Australian-owned construction company with over 40 years of experience across rail, renewable and energy infrastructure, was engaged by Transport for NSW to deliver upgrades at Moss Vale Station and Stabling Yard. The project aimed to enhance accessibility, achieve compliance with the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT), and to accommodate the new Regional Rail Fleet.

A visually appealing noise barrier

Located near both commercial and residential zones, the project required a careful balance of aesthetics and effective noise abatement, with noise absorption crucial for the stabling yard.

A sustainable alternative to concrete

ModularWalls’ AcoustiSorb® Panels AS100 were selected to meet the client’s low-carbon material requirements while supporting the project’s overall sustainability targets. The innovative panels feature an 80% recycled PET core, contributing to a lower environmental footprint when compared with typically used concrete barrier installations.

The recycled PET core aligned with our waste to resource requirements for the project and the faster installation and lighter transportation weight contributed to the projects goals to reduce GHG emission.”

With a 50-year design life, the AcoustiSorb® system supports circular economy principles and contributes to sustainability targets while delivering a long-lasting design.

The Moss Vale Stabling Yard Upgrade aimed to enhance accessibility, achieve compliance with the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT), and to accommodate the new Regional Rail Fleet, with the help of ModularWalls acoustic wall panels.

Versatility, customisation and efficient installation

ModularWalls worked closely with the client to engineer a custom wall panel solution, incorporating integrated reinforcement ribs within the panel profile to enhance sectional rigidity and flexural performance, allowing the panels to span 4 metres while satisfying the applicable deflection criteria, in alignment with the client’s steel post layout and without the need for intermediate posts.

AcoustiSorb®’s versatility was highly regarded by the client, enabling colour-matched powder coating to be applied to meet the architectural brief.

The installation was completed within 2-3 weeks, demonstrating the efficiency and streamlined process of the modular noise wall solution.

Acoustic wall panels = positive community impacts

By prioritising sound absorption, aesthetics, and sustainability, the custom wall panel installation at Moss Vale Stabling Yard effectively addresses the project’s functional requirements while enhancing the visual and acoustic experience for residents and visitors.
